Learning kitesurfing in Knokke-Heist

Knokke-Heist is a well-known spot to learn kitesurfing in Belgium: wide beach, steady west to north winds. At Kitesurf Belgium, every lesson is organised based on the day’s conditions to ensure real progress and safe coaching.

Step 1 — Kitesurf introduction

Discover kite control on land.
Group of up to 6 students, up to 3h depending on the number of participants.
From €90, gear included.

Steps 2, 3 and 4 — Semi-private progression

Bodydrag, waterstart, first rides.
Maximum 2 students per instructor, 2h per session. €160 per step.
If you are alone, the format becomes a 1h30 private lesson.

5-Step Pack

The full path from introduction to autonomy: Step 1 + 4 steps.
Price: €650, gear included.

Private lessons

1 student, 1 instructor, 2h. €240 gear included.
4 × 2h pack available at €800.
Ideal for fast progression or refinement.

Wingfoil

Wingfoil introduction and progression available alongside kitesurfing:
Step 1 at €90, next steps €160, 3-step pack €370.

The final decision is always made by the team based on the day’s actual conditions and safety.

How a lesson works

1. Weather confirmation The school confirms the session based on actual conditions. If wind is not workable, the lesson is rescheduled.

2. Welcome and briefing Introductions, equipment, safety theory, wind window, communication signals.

3. Practice on land Kite control on the beach, managing power.

4. Practice in the water Body drag, board recovery, waterstarts and first rides depending on your step.

5. Debrief and IKO follow-up Skills validation, IKO logbook update, focus points for next session.

Weather and flexibility

Kitesurfing depends on wind and tide. A session is confirmed by the school based on actual conditions, not automated forecasts.

Safety and coaching

Kitesurf Belgium is an IKO certified centre.

All our instructors are IKO certified. Gear is renewed every season and maintained continuously.

Every session starts with a safety briefing.

The lesson area is chosen based on wind, tide and beach traffic. Safety before scheduling, scheduling before sales: a session is cancelled without hesitation if conditions are not safe.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous kitesurfing experience?

No. Lessons are open to beginners and experienced riders alike.
The Step 1 Introduction is designed for people who have never practised before.

What is the minimum age and weight?

From 12 years old, from 40 kg (50 kg recommended for water sessions). Swimming skills are required.

Is equipment included?

Yes. Kite sized for the day’s wind, board, harness, wetsuit, helmet and vest are provided for all lessons.

What is the difference between group and private lessons?

Semi-private group lessons take a maximum of 2 students per instructor on steps 2 to 4 (€90 for step 1, €160 per following step).
Private lessons are 1-on-1, €240 for 2 hours, for faster progression.

How many hours to become independent?

The full IKO path matches the 5-Step Pack.
Actual duration depends on wind, fitness and consistency.

Do you also offer wingfoil?

Yes. Steps 1 to 3 and a 3-step pack are available, alongside our kitesurf offering.

What happens if there is no wind?

The session is rescheduled according to our terms and conditions.

In Knokke-Heist, on the Belgian coast. The exact area is chosen by the team based on wind and tide.
